Candidacy Examination

Prior to traveling to the host institution, the OSU student must take a written and/or oral Admission to Candidacy Examination (ACE), according to the guidelines of the graduate programs at OSU. USP students must take the Qualify Exam, according to the guidelines of the graduate programs at USP. The committee that will evaluate the ACE/QE, which may or may not be the same as the Ph.D. thesis committee, must be composed of the minimal number of faculty members requested by the home institution, plus two additional faculty members from the host institution. Co-advisors will be given adjunct graduate faculty status. Thus, prior to participation in the ACE/QE, it is necessary for the faculty member/advisor of the host institution to (have been granted graduate faculty status) at the home institution.
