PhD Degree Examination
The Ph.D. Dissertation will be prepared in English and must be approved by all the members of the Program Committee, and either the advisory committee at OSU or the Graduate Program Committee at USP/ESALQ. On approval of the dissertation, a final oral examination in English, based largely on the dissertation work, will be held on the campus of the home institution in accordance with the guidelines and procedural details followed by the home institution. The examination committee may consist of the members of the dissertation reading committee, and should be formed by members from both institutions, comprising two faculty members of the home institution and two of the host institution and the adviser of the home institution. A Graduate Faculty Representative from OSU nominated by the Dean of the Graduate School is required to participate in the defense committee, and the student will need to make arrangements for the Representative to receive a copy of the dissertation. The Graduate Faculty Representative will more than likely participate in a video-linked Dissertation Examination. Students will need to submit a Doctoral Draft Approval/Notice of Final Oral Exam form, along with a paper draft copy of the dissertation to the OSU Graduate School at least two (2) weeks prior to the defense date. Students must be enrolled at OSU for at least three (3) graduate credits in the semester the final defense exam is taken. The final approved dissertations at OSU are submitted electronically as PDF’s (no paper copies). At USP/ESALQ, candidates are required to submit a pdf copy of the final thesis with the authorization to have the thesis available online by the adviser and co-adviser and 10 copies on paper.
